Gevo, Inc. (NASDAQ: GEVO) announced its financial results for the three months ended December 31, 2012. "We are pleased with the progress we've made optimizing our technology over the past three months and remain on-track to restart isobutanol production at Luverne this year," said Patrick Gruber Ph.D., Chief Executive Officer of Gevo. "After assuming the additional role of Chief Technology Officer, Chris Ryan has done an exceptional job orienting our technology team towards achieving our goals of producing isobutanol consistently and at commercially viable rates. Our market development work with strategic customers such as Coca-Cola, Toray, the United States Air Force, and Sasol is moving forward and we look forward to turning this work into revenues as soon as possible." Revenues for the fourth quarter of 2012 were $1.9 million compared to $17.2 million in the same period in 2011. The decrease in revenues resulted from the company suspending ethanol production at its Luverne, Minn. facility in May 2012. During the fourth quarter of 2012, the company concluded initial startup operations for the production of isobutanol at its Luverne facility. As previously announced, following completion of startup operations, production was temporarily paused to allow the company to focus on optimizing specific parts of its technology to further enhance isobutanol production rates. Production from startup operations will be directed to initial sales, customer testing, and future conversion into jet fuel for the U.S. Air Force (USAF).

Gevo Wins Patent Suit in Delaware Court
ENGLEWOOD, Colo. - March 21, 2013 - Gevo, Inc. (NASDAQ: GEVO), announced today that a judgment of non-infringement will be entered for Gevo following the acknowledgment by Butamax Advanced Biofuels LLC (Butamax) that Gevo does not infringe Butamax's asserted patents under the Court's construction of a key claim term in Butamax's Patent Nos. 7,851,188 and 7,993,889. As a result of this victory, a judgment of non-infringement will be entered in Gevo's favor and the trial scheduled for April 1st will no longer take place.
"This is an outstanding victory for Gevo," noted Brett Lund, EVP and General Counsel for Gevo. "We have consistently maintained that we do not infringe any Butamax patents and Butamax's concession resoundingly validates our position."
The judgment of non-infringement comes on the heels of the Court's important claim construction determination which held that Butamax's Patent Nos. 7,851,188 and 7,993,889 require the use of an "NADPH-dependent" KARI. Butamax conceded that it could not establish that Gevo's KARI is NADPH-dependent.
"Gevo continues to demonstrate that it does not infringe Butamax's patents because Gevo created an NADH-dependent KARI enzyme that enables Gevo's yeast strains to produce isobutanol at much greater efficiencies than strains using the NADPH-dependent enzymes claimed by Butamax," said Lund. "We fully expect Butamax will appeal to the Federal Circuit, but we are confident in the merits of our case."
In addition to granting a judgment of non-infringement, the Court invalidated Butamax's patent claims for the deletion of PDC. PDC is the enzyme responsible for making ethanol and its deletion is required for the commercially viable production of isobutanol. Gevo's patents covering the deletion of PDC and the use of AFT are set for trial in August of this year, where Gevo is suing Butamax for patent infringement.

Gevo Resumes Commercial Production of Isobutanol
Gevo Resumes Commercial Production of Isobutanol
ENGLEWOOD, Colo., June 18, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Gevo, Inc. (Nasdaq:GEVO) today announced that it has resumed commercial production of isobutanol at its Luverne, Minn. plant in single train mode, successfully utilizing its proprietary Gevo Integrated Fermentation Technology(R) (GIFT(R) ).
"I am pleased to report that we have been successful in operating our full-scale fermentation and our GIFT(R) separation system that separates the isobutanol from the fermentation broth. This serves to further validate our technology as we had not previously run the GIFT(R) system at full scale. I can now say that it runs beautifully," noted Patrick Gruber, Gevo's Chief Executive Officer.
Gruber continued, "As you may recall, we had some microbial contamination in our plant that we have since learned to control and manage. The fixes included changing the fermentation conditions and related operating parameters, making equipment modifications to improve sanitization, and, most importantly, improving our operating discipline--the procedures we use at the plant.
"We plan to be producing isobutanol and operating throughout the rest of this year. While we are currently operating a single production train, we plan on bringing all of our fermenters and GIFT(R) systems online in the third and fourth quarters, testing run rates, then ramping up production and sales in 2013 and 2014," noted Gruber.
Gevo will sell the isobutanol it produces, using it for market development in the specialty chemicals market, the specialty oxygenated fuel blendstock market, and as a building block to make jet fuel and chemical products such as paraxylene for PET used in the production of bottles and fibers.

Gevo Signs Letter of Intent With Highlands EnviroFuels to License Isobutanol Technology for Florida Plant
Plant to Convert Sugar Cane and Sweet Sorghum to 20-25 Million Gallons Per Year of Isobutanol
ENGLEWOOD, Colo., Nov. 24, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Gevo, Inc. (Nasdaq:GEVO), the world's only commercial producer of renewable isobutanol, announced today that Highlands EnviroFuels, LLC ("Highlands") has signed a letter of intent to become a Gevo licensee to produce renewable isobutanol.
Highlands will build a commercial-scale "Brazilian-style" syrup mill in Highlands County, Florida, which would have a production capacity of approximately 200,000 metric tons of fermentable sugar per year. The facility will process locally grown sugar cane and sweet sorghum to a high quality syrup as a clean sugar stream for fermentation and recovery of isobutanol. The isobutanol plant would be bolted on to the back-end of the syrup mill and have a nameplate capacity of approximately 20-25 million gallons per year.
"We look forward to partnering with Gevo because their renewable isobutanol enables multiple end-market opportunities for us, both as a 'drop-in' molecule for the specialty fuels and chemicals markets, and as hydrocarbon products utilizing Gevo's downstream alcohols-to-hydrocarbons technologies," said Bradley Krohn, President of Highlands. "In particular, isobutanol has a significant market opportunity in Florida with the boating industry given isobutanol's favorable properties as compared to ethanol. We are eager to finalize the details of a binding agreement so that we can start constructing the facility."
Patrick Gruber, Gevo's Chief Executive Officer, said, "We are very pleased to be working with Highlands and having them join Gevo as a licensee. This new partnership shows the flexibility of Gevo's GIFT(R) technology to convert a wide range of sugar sources into isobutanol. It also continues to validate the interest in licensing our intellectual property portfolio as we look to transition our business to focus more on a licensing model."
